How does genetic testing work?

Stephanie Rouillard, Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, explains how genetic testing works in the field of nutrition with Clarence Ford, from CapeTalk 567AM.

In the world of nutrition, we can look at your genetic make-up to determine your unique nutritional needs.

Nutrigenomics testing is replacing generalised dietary advice. Genetic testing empowers practitioners to be able to use your genetic results (or your unique ‘blueprint’) to personalise dietary and lifestyle interventions. Genetic testing reveals what happening at a cellular level, which allows us to address the root causes of your health concerns.

It is important to take a genetic test with your healthcare practitioner, as direct-to-consumer tests out there are not always trustworthy. Make sure that you know which labs or tests are scientifically sound. Chat to your integrative dietitian.
